Barca: We're Gunner bid for Henry

Barcelona are poised to launch an ambitious bid for Arsenal striker Thierry Henry after failing to land David Beckham.

Barcelona are poised to launch an ambitious bid for Arsenal striker Thierry Henry after failing to land David Beckham.

They hope to open talks with the Frenchman before the end of the week.

Henry is currently on international duty with France at the Confederations Cup and scored his country’s winner in last night’s match against Colombia.

Having missed out on Beckham, the Catalans are desperate to land a big-name player – and Henry fits the bill.

A delegation from Barcelona arrived in Paris today, headed by vice-president Sandro Rosell.

Rosell’s press secretary Juanjo Castillo told PA International from the French capital: “Henry is one of the players we’re hoping to talk to this week.

“We have to see whether he is interested in coming.

“Everyone likes Henry and he’s a great player.”

Castillo also revealed that negotiations are continuing with Paris St Germain’s Brazilian frontman Ronaldinho, and that the club are still hoping to lure PSV Eindhoven coach Guus Hiddink to the club.
