Thousands expected at McEntee funeral

Thousands are expected to attend the funeral today of the late Minister of State, Shane McEntee.

His funeral Mass will take place at 11am this morning at St. John the Baptist Church in Nobber Co. Meath, followed by burial in Nobber Cemetery.

The 56-year-old father-of-four was found dead on Friday morning.

President Michael D Higgins and the Taoiseach Enda Kenny are expected to attend the funeral. Last night, more than 2,000 people attended his removal.

Former Taoiseach and Meath TD John Bruton said that Deputy McEntee was an extremely loyal person.

"Shane was a really generous man," he said.

"And also apart from that, he had this terrific loyalty, which I think started from his career in football, where he understood the importance of loyalty in a team game, and that, I think, expressed itself in the way he approached his politics."
