A jailed Kerry rapist will be sentenced on Mary 26 by Mr Justice Kevin O'Higgins at the Central Criminal Court for attempted rape of a 17-year-old girl he met at a Killarney disco on Christmas Eve 2004.

James Cronin (aged 23), of Freemount, Rathmore, Co Kerry was found guilty by a jury on December 20 last of attempted rape of the teenager and with assault with intent to rape her in a laneway on December 24, 2004.

He was found not guilty of threatening to kill the girl on the same date and location. The jury's decisions came following just over two hours of deliberation on day-seven of the trial.

Cronin is already serving an eight year sentence imposed on May 26 last year by Mr Justice Henry Abbott for kidnapping and raping another woman he met outside a Killarney disco in the early hours of the morning of October 31, 2004.

Cronin was found guilty by a jury last March following just over 30 minutes deliberation on day-12 of his trial of falsely imprisoning and raping the then 27-year-old woman on October 31, 2004 in his van in a Killarney car park.
