The Moriarty Tribunal is expected to reveal more details today about its investigation into the awarding of Ireland’s second mobile phone licence to ESAT Digifone.

Former Communications Minister Michael Lowry, who was responsible for awarding the licence, is expected to give evidence today on new letters uncovered by the tribunal which appear to contradict an earlier testimony.

Yesterday, tribunal chairman Michael Moriarty revealed that a full public inquiry will be held into the award.

However, an opening statement on the matter will not be delivered until September following representations from former ESAT chairman Denis O’Brien and others.
