Pete Sampras has crashed out in the first round of the Rome Tennis Masters Series, losing in three sets to Spain's Felix Mantilla.

Pete Sampras has crashed out in the first round of the Rome Tennis Masters Series, losing in three sets to Spain's Felix Mantilla.

Sampras lost his serve early in the first set, came back to win the second set on a tie-break, but then was broken again in the eighth game of the final set to lose 6-4 6-7 6-3.
