Hughes handed month ban

Richard Hughes has been banned for a month after being found guilty of ’foul riding’ in India.

Richard Hughes has been banned for a month after being found guilty of ’foul riding’ in India.

Richard Hannon’s stable jockey was judged to have elbowed a rival after suffering interference when riding Star Trainer in a seven-furlong heat in Mumbai.

Hughes’ mount was disqualified from second place and officials have decided to ban him for a month despite the rider claiming he was merely defending himself.

He tweeted: “Just got a month ban in India for self defence they say I should have taken a check rather than hold my position, barmy.”

Hughes’ ban will begin on January 22 and he will miss nine meetings in Mumbai.

However, he should be available to partner the Richard Hannon-trained Dubawi Gold in his Dubai Carnival campaign which is due to begin on March 10.
