Opposition calls for penalty points system funds
Opposition parties have demanded that the Government provide the necessary funding to enable the implementation of the penalty points system.
The new plan is outlined in the Road Traffic Bill.
The controversy arose after a row between the Departments of Justice and Finance over the €11m needed to put the plan in place.
Fine Gael’s Olivia Mitchell says the Government is being cynical about rushing through the penalty points system when the money is not there to fund it.
