Alex Reid delighted with 'lovely girl' Katie

Alex Reid could not understand why Katie Price was always in the news until he met her and was bowled over, he told chat show host Alan Carr.

Reid married Price in a low-key ceremony in Las Vegas last month, just days after he won Celebrity Big Brother.

In an interview recorded last night, he told Carr: “Do you know what, I used to see Katie Price in the papers all the time and I couldn’t understand it – why is she in the magazines every bloody week?”

Price, who models under the name Jordan, married singer Peter Andre in an over-the-top fairytale wedding in 2005 but the couple split last year.

Reid told Carr he had seen coverage of the wedding where the bride arrived in glass Cinderella carriage.

“I thought the wedding was ugh, why’s she doing all that? And now I’m married to her! I met a lovely girl who I thought was fit.”

Reid said Price accepted his marriage proposal in September last year.

He said she had “overreacted” when she announced they had split up when she fled the 'I’m a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!' camp in November, saying the experience reminded her too much of Andre who she met during an earlier series. The couple were divorced last year.

Reid said he and Price decided to marry in Las Vegas because “we just wanted to do it so urgently”.

He said the couple had not signed a pre-nuptial agreement.

Price watched the interview from the studio’s green room.

:: 'Alan Carr: Chatty Man' will be shown on Channel 4 tonight at 10pm.
