In their first ever battle at headquarters Eamon O’Shea’s side were far too good for last year’s beaten finalists and Seamus Callanan’s 2-4 inspired them to victory.

Callanan struck for crucial goals in each half and Paudie Maher was superb in a Tipperary defence which curtailed a Cork attack whose cause was not helped by nine opening half wides.

Alan Cadogan hit over Cork’s opening point in the first minute but the Rebels didn’t score for another ten minutes as Callanan’s opening goal got them up and running.

Shane McGrath’s cross-field pass evaded the efforts of Shane O’Neill, Callanan scooped the ball and rifled home an unstoppable shot from distance.

Further points from James Woodlock and two from John O’Dwyer pushed Tipp clear and when Aidan Walsh finally got Cork’s second they were four points in arrears.

Callanan hit a free for Tipperary before Seamus Harnedy replied and then a huge free from Anthony Nash brought his side within a goal.

Two points from the impressive Shane McGrath dragged Tipp further clear but Cork scored four of the next five points of the half.

Another free from Nash combined with two from Conor Lehane and one from Patrick Horgan brought Jimmy Barry-Murphy’s men right back into it before the break as they went in trailing 1-7 to 0-8.

Tipperary raced out of the blocks in the second-half and three points in a row, one each for Shane McGrath, James Woodlock and Seamus Callanan cemented their advantage.

Pat Horgan’s free was just a consolation as Seamus Callanan produced a carbon-copy of his first-half shot when he found Anthony Nash’s top-left corner with another sensational effort to shoot his seventh goal of the current campaign.

Noel McGrath and John O’Dwyer added points for Tipp and Conor Lehane’s point came before three further scorers for the Premier men, two coming from the in-form O’Dwyer and when James Woodlock made it six points from the Tipp midfield it was the beginning of the end for Cork.

It was now 2-15 to 0-10 after 55 minutes and despite a point from Lehane, two more from Callanan sandwiched one from Noel McGrath as Tipp kept moving clear.

Substitute Rob O’Shea’s goal for Cork in the 67th minute was another consolatory score but only that as Tipperary advanced to their first All-Ireland final in since 2011 with a ten-point victory on a day when John O’Dwyer again showed his form this year with 0-6 from play.
