Iceland issues volcano warning to airlines

Iceland is warning airlines of a possible volcanic eruption.

Experts have issued an orange alert, the second highest level, for a volcano in the country's south west.

It is in a different range to the one which erupted in 2010 that shut down Europe's airspace for six days.

Martin Hensch, from the Icelandic Met Office, is playing down a possible eruption.

He said: "I would say the eruption is rather unlikely.

"We do occasionally see magma intrusions into the Icelandic crust that do not end in an eruption, however we still have to closely monitor the situation as it might change any time."
