Police are hunting a pensioner who tried to hold up a bank at gun point.

The suspect, described has being in his 60s or 70s with receding grey hair and a beard, threatened staff with what appeared to be a firearm, Norfolk Police said.

The incident happened at a branch of TSB in the High Street of Holt, north Norfolk, at about 3pm yesterday.

The cashier refused and the man left empty-handed.

Detective Inspector Graeme Talbot said: “No staff member was hurt but they were obviously surprised and upset by what happened.

“This was an unusual and isolated incident which was over very quickly but it is important we identify this individual at the earliest opportunity.”

The man, who was wearing a distinctive white, cream, blue and black stripy jumper and dark trousers, was caught on CCTV.

Holt is an affluent town which is popular with second home owners and tourists.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who recognised the man or saw him in the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Great Yarmouth CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
