Medical device company Boston Scientific has announced that it will be investing €100 million in its Galway campus at Ballybrit.
The expansion is expected to create more than 300 jobs in the coming years. The company has also expanded its site capabilities for production which includes a carbon-neutral manufacturing space.
Boston Scientific, which has had a strong presence in Galway for nearly 30 years, exports more than four million medical devices every year. The devices range from heart stents and valves to vascular balloons and esophageal stents.
The products created by the company help treat patients with conditions including heart disease, vascular disease, esophageal cancer, and those at risk of stroke.
“This expansion reflects the important contributions of our workforce here in Galway and the strength of the broader business and local community in the west region,” said James Lyons, vice president of Operations at Boston Scientific.
“In addition to the investment in our physical space, we remain committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where all employees can find opportunities to grow in their careers.”
The company employs some 6,500 people across its sites in Galway, Clonmel and Cork, making it the largest life sciences employer in Ireland.
Amid the development of the company, many employees at the Galway campus have transitioned to hybrid work models.
