Meta, which is the new name for Facebook's parent company, has been voted as the worst company of 2021 according to a new poll.
The company, which was plagued by scandals and controversy throughout the year, rebranded to bring together its different apps and technologies under one new brand. It owns multiple platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
A recent poll published by Yahoo! Finance which surveyed 1,541 people, found that 8 per cent of voters singled out Mark Zuckerberg’s company as the worst of the year.
Meta received 50 per cent more votes than runner-up, Alibaba, the Chinese online shopping platform.
From allegations by a whistle-blower that claimed Facebook ignored safety issues, to being before the US Congress for questioning, the company faced major difficulties in 2021.
It is also struggling to satisfy people on multiple fronts with many feeling it does not do enough for regulation in terms of misinformation and hate speech, while others feel the platform censors their voice.
Other company's which featured on the list of the worst of 2021 include AT&T, Nikola, and Tesla. As for Meta, how Mark Zuckerberg might salvage the reputation of the company remains to be seen.
