A technical issue which left retailers across the country unable to take card payments has been resolved.
Cash was king again after the Opayo platform for taking card payments experienced service disruption on Monday.
Retailers reported that customers were unable to buy items using debit cards because the payments would not process.
Irish retailers such as SuperValu and Centra were among those affected.
However, the issue has since been resolved with the company apologising for any disruption caused to customers.
We experienced a service disruption yesterday which impacted transactions. We apologise to our customers for the disruptions this caused. We take this matter seriously and are working to understand what steps may be taken to help prevent this from happening in the future.

Opayo, formerly known as Sage Pay, was acquired by Elavon for about $300 million (€272 million) in 2019 and subsequently rebranded. It works with 50,000 merchants in the UK and Ireland.
