Frontman Chris Martin also took the chance to impress the crowd with his language skills as Gaeilge.

He said: "Céad mile fáilte go Croke Pairc. Tá áthas orainn anseo I Croke Pairc."

Coldplay drummer Will Champion included the GAA logo and 'Dublin 24' on his drum kit.

Taking to the band's X account, he wrote: "What a pleasure to be back in Baile Átha Cliath. Four shows in the temple of the GAA in front of 82,000 Dubliners in full voice is the perfect way to finish this leg of the tour. W. X"

On Wednesday, the band made a surprise performance in Dublin city centre.

Lead singer Chris Martin, accompanied by rapper Burna Boy, walked into Grafton Street shortly after 8pm amid heightened security and an increased presence of gardaí.

They were met with cheers and applause as the upstairs windows of various shops were opened to reveal several professional cameras filming the action below.

Martin and Burna Boy were joined by Little Simz, Elyanna and TINI for the first public performance of We Pray involving all the artists.

They performed the same song several times as fans took videos on mobile phones and sang along.

The short session was part of a music video to debut on the band’s official TikTok channel.
