RTÉ has confirmed that new episodes of Fair City will be back on television screens in early September.

Viewers will see new stories and dramas unfold as the programme will reflect life in Ireland with Covid-19.

The long-running soap is returning to production in line with new safety procedures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Series producer Brigie DeCourcy says: "Everyone is delighted that we are now in a position to get back to telling stories and bringing fun and chaos back to Carrigstown."

“We have been eager to get back to production, but the priority was the health and safety of the whole team.”

The most recent episode of Fair City aired on April 12th after the Covid-19 pandemic prevented further filming of the show.

Production on the show halted in March as the pandemic reached Ireland, however, cast and crew are now returning to Carrigstown in line with HSE and Government guidelines.

“It has been our priority that these systems were in place before committing to a return date so that we could protect the health and well-being of our actors, writers, directors and crew,” says Ms DeCourcy.

On the last episode of Fair City that aired, viewers watched Dean admit his low mood to Mondo, Hayley ask Sharon to give Ger a chance, and Sash come clean about her wishes for Olivia’s christening to Wayne. Carol also made a heart-felt plea to Liam.

Ms DeCourcy also revealed in this week’s RTÉ Guide that Dancing With The Stars favourite Karen Byrne is set to make a guest appearance on the show, teaming up with Ryan Andrews, who plays Sean, for some "remote dancing".
