Three Irish actors - Cillian Murphy, Andrew Scott and Barry Keoghan - have been nominated for Best Actor in a movie at the Golden Globes.

The awards will take place in the New Year in Los Angeles.

Six actors have been nominated in the category and half of them are Irish.

Cillian Murphy got the nod for his role in Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan's biographical thriller about the man who made the atomic bomb.

Barry Keoghan was nominated for Saltburn and Andrew Scott has been put up for his role in All of Us Strangers.

The others up in the category are Leonardo DiCaprio (Killers of the Flower Moon), Bradley Cooper (Maestro) and Colman Domingo (Rustin).

Poor Things, which is produced by Irish company Element Pictures, has been nominated in multiple categories. This includes Best Picture, Musical or Comedy as well as a Best Actress nomination for Emma Stone.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 7th, 2024.
