Glee star Lea Michele has said she had “back-to-back” miscarriages before conceiving her second child.

The actress, who shot to fame as Rachel Berry on the singing show, is pregnant with her second baby with husband Zandy Reich.

However, she said the journey was “completely not what we expected”.

Speaking on Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt’s podcast BDA Baby, she said she had “two back-to-back very early failed pregnancies” after the couple welcomed their son Ever, who is now aged three.

She said: “I had never had a miscarriage before. The first one, I was like, ‘That was weird.’

“When it happened again right away, I was like, ‘Wait a second. Something is wrong.'”

The pair stopped trying when Michele began starring on Funny Girl on Broadway but she added: “It wasn’t until a little bit later, I had another (miscarriage).

“I was working at the time. It was super challenging to…process what we were experiencing at the same time, which was very painful.”

Michele said she was ultimately diagnosed with endometriosis and had surgery.

She said she was put on “so many drugs and medications and one thousand shots”, and ultimately got pregnant.

She shared the news she was expecting again in March, when she shared a picture of herself cradling her bump on Instagram and wrote: “Mommy, Daddy and Ever are overjoyed.”

Michele revealed in May that she and Reich are expecting a daughter.

In a post to mark Mother’s Day in the US, she wrote: “The most beautiful Mother’s Day today, holding my son who made me a mama…and carrying my daughter.”
