Munster Senior Hurling Club Championship
Waterford side Ballygunner defeated Limerick champions Doon in the Gaelic Grounds, where it finished Ballygunner 0-25, Doon 0-20 in the Munster Senior Hurling Club Championship quarter-final.
Doon produced an admirably defiant display throughout, but Ballygunner still found a way to survive, and eventually thrive.
Following a first ever Limerick SHC title, Derek McGrath's determined Doon summoned a gutsy opening period display and by the time the interval rolled around, Doon were 0-12 to 0-8 ahead as a gripping game unfolded.
Ballygunner, though, stayed cool and composed under pressure. After the restart, Patrick Fitzgerald rifled over three gorgeous points, while Pauric Mahony and Dessie Hutchinson were others to make sterling contributions.
Doon continued to battle until the bitter end, carving some goalscoring opportunities, but Stephen O'Keeffe made vital stops thwarting Pat Ryan when the issue was delicately poised.
Munster Senior Club Ladies' Football Championship
Comeragh Rangers of Waterford have progressed to their first-ever Munster Senior Club Ladies’ Football Championship final after beating Cork’s Aghada with a score of 1-8 to 1-7.
Comeragh Rangers were behind until the 51st minute and didn’t lead until the second minute of additional time.
Aoibhe Shankley scored 1-2, all in the final 16 minutes, and scored a winning score at the death.
Meanwhile, Castleisland Desmonds beat Kilmurry Ibrickane to reach the Munster LGFA senior final with a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-6.
Two goals in the space of five first half minutes inspired Co Kerry’s Castleisland Desmonds to a convincing victory over Co Clare’s Kilmurry Ibrickane at the splendid grounds of Páirc Naomh Mhuire in Quilty.
Seven points ahead at the interval (2-6 to 1-2), and with Kilmurry Ibrickane having lost midfielder Sophie Daly to a sin-binning, Desmonds were virtually home and dry heading into the changeover, with Amy Curtin adding to their advantage early in the second period.
The winners were temporarily reduced to 14 themselves when Walmsley picked up a yellow card in the 38th minute.
With an unanswered five-point burst at the start of the final quarter, Desmonds saw out their job with the minimum of fuss, with Chloe Moloney sin-binned for Kilmurray Ibrickane in the 55th minute.
The winners will hope to have captain Ciara O’Sullivan and Aishling Leonard back for next weekend’s provincial final against Waterford’s Comeragh Rangers.
Limerick Senior Football Final
The Limerick Senior Football final was won by Adare, who got the better of Fr Casey's by 1-10 to 0-8.
After three successive decider defeats, Adare experienced and enjoyed the other side of the county final coin.
Harry Gleeson’s charges were never led in this Limerick football final. After a clinical start where they kicked the opening 1-3 without reply, Adare’s advantage was never less than two points thereafter. Only twice did their lead shrink to two across the hour, that early in the fourth quarter.
In what was their fifth consecutive Limerick final appearance, the five-point win bookended those five consecutive final appearances with a second victory. Their fourth overall since their maiden success of 2017.
The six-point interval gap was not a reflection of Adare’s superiority. The six-point interval gap was a reflection of Adare’s efficiency and Fr Casey’s complete lack of the same.
