16 people are due in court this morning following two serious public order incidents in Cork city - one of which Gardaí say saw two officers assaulted.
The incidents happened on Oliver Plunkett Street and near Daunt Square on Sunday night.
Gardaí on patrol were assisting a man who was lying on Oliver Plunkett Street last night at around 10pm, when a large group became physically and verbally aggressive towards them.
A number of gardaí arrived at the scene as backup.
Officers ordered the group to leave the area and were forced to use pepper spray.
One garda was punched in the face and another was pushed to the ground.
Neither required medical attention and remained on duty.
Shortly after midnight, a number of people close to Daunt Square were physically and verbally aggressive towards gardaí.
16 people arrested in connection with the incidents are due in court on Monday morning.
