Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has said that local lockdowns for specific parts of Dublin are not currently being considered by the Government.

It follows a rise in Covid-19 cases in the capital, with over 100 new cases reported there yesterday alone.

Public health officials have said local lockdown measures will not be the first or second option to control the spread of the virus.

Acting chief medical officer Dr Ronan Glynn has asked people to double down on their efforts against Covid-19, following the highest daily number of new cases in over three months being reported yesterday.

217 new infections of the virus were recorded, with 103 positive tests in Dublin, 25 in Kildare, and 17 each in both Limerick and Tipperary.

Dr Glynn said while the number of cases is substantial, the five day moving average remains relatively stable at 115 cases per day.
