Dublin Bus says the arrival of new electric hybrid buses is part of its plan to move to a zero emission fleet in the city.
Ten new vehicles will enter service early in the new year, and it is expected they will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30 per cent.
They are the first of an initial order of 100 and will feature designated seating for vulnerable passengers.
Chief executive of Dublin Bus, Ray Coyne, says customers will have a much quieter journey experience.
“This will be seven per cent of the fleet and the National Transport Authority will be procuring more [electric hybrid] vehicles to introduce into our fleet next year so hopefully we'll be getting towards 20 per cent.
“This is a significant improvement and development for the city and our customers and most welcome as we move towards a zero emission fleet in Dublin.”
