Fermoy locals have reacted with anger after a guest on the Graham Norton Show labelled the Cork town "horrible".
Fine Gael Councillor for Fermoy Noel McCarthy, and the local Tidy Towns committee, have both said they will be writing to the BBC show to complain.
A Scottish woman, who was taking part in the Big Red Chair feature on Norton's show, described Fermoy as a "horrible town" having lived there for 20 years.
Mr McCarthy said he plans to write to the Graham Norton show about the comments broadcast on BBC One last Friday.
He said: “We are horrified at the way our town was described. To think our town would be portrayed like that by someone who was living here is terrible.
“Fermoy has a lot to offer and won the IBAL Cleanest Town in 2018 and also in 2007.”
He said a number of locals had contacted him about the segment to express their anger, with one woman in tears when she called him.
