Oliver Callan Has More Listeners Than Ryan Tubridy Had On Rté Radio
Oliver Callan's RTÉ Radio Show has seen a rise in listeners.

Oliver Callan's morning radio show on RTÉ Radio One has increased its listenership to 336,000, 2,000 higher than the listenership on Ryan Tubridy's time on the programme.

Figures released by the Joint National Listenership Research (JNLR) survey for July 2023 show it is the third most listened to radio programme in the country.

Morning Ireland is the most popular radio programme in the country with 486,000 listeners, a yearly increase of 46,000.

This is followed by Today with Claire Byrne, which has 334,000 listeners.

Liveline with Joe Duffy also saw a boost, with a listenership of 302,000.

Brendan O’Connor on Saturday has 340,000 listeners, with 346,000 listeners tuning in to the second most listened to programme in the country on Sunday

This will come as a welcome boost for RTÉ following months of controversies.

Tara Campbell, Managing Editor of RTÉ Radio 1, said: “This is a strong book for RTÉ Radio 1 with the range of content produced by our creative and hard-working programme teams resonating with audiences across news and current affairs, sport, entertainment, music and culture.

"As the only station with a weekly reach of over one million listeners we're particularly proud of the loyalty of our audiences and the trust they place in our talented presenters and in our output. Our listeners remain at the forefront of everything we do.”

RTÉ 2FM also saw a rise in listeners, with 2FM Drive the most successful show with 157,000 listeners.

2FM Breakfast has 149,000 listeners tuning in on weekday mornings, while Laura Fox's show has also been popular with 141,000 listeners.

Dan Healy, Head of RTÉ Radio Strategy and RTÉ 2FM, said: "Laura Fox has had an immediate positive impact to the 2FM with her show growing by 6,000 listeners weekdays from 9am to 12pm. Laura has a brilliant team led by Kate Proctor.

"Clifford has increased again in this survey up 7,000 listeners from 12pm to 3pm. The Breakfast Show are up 5,000 and the 2FM Drive slot up 6,000 listeners.

"We are in the middle of a process of discovering the next new radio talent for Ireland, almost 140 people are coming through 2FM over the next two weeks. We are meeting incredibly talented people from all walks of life.

"Off the back of this strong book we look forward to building on these gains and bringing a new breakfast and evening drive show for the audience over the next few months. Finally, a massive thanks from all the 2FM team to our listeners."

Today FM remains on track to hit a weekly reach of one million, with 988,000 listeners tuning in to the national station each week, over 50,000 more listeners than this time last year.

The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show has 210,000 listeners, a decrease of 6,000 book on book.

Dave Moore's show from 9-12 has seen an increase of 7,000 since this time last year with 223,000 listeners.

The Last Word with Matt Cooper saw the number of listeners frop to 171,000.
