Five people have been taken to hospital after a road traffic collision in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan on Thursday morning.
The collision occurred on the R180 between Carrickmacross and Ballybay.
A female passenger of one of the vehicles, aged in her 50s, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda with serious injuries. The driver of the same vehicle, a woman in her 20s, was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
A female passenger (60s) from the second vehicle was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries. The driver, a man in his 50s, and a female passenger, aged in her 40s, were also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The road is currently closed as the scene of the collision is being preserved for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
Gardaí in Carrickmacross are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who were travelling in the area of Killarue, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan on Thursday between 9.30am and 10.30am, and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to gardaí.
