The Justice Minister says that anyone engaged in criminal acts in Coolock will face "the full rigours of the law".
She says she has spoken to the Garda Commissioner about the incident and the public order unit is currently on site.
A security guard is understood to have been injured at the site of a proposed asylum seeker accommodation centre on the Malahide Road in Dublin.
Uniformed Garda have started to pull back as the public order unit moves in on protestors.
Footage on social media shows the fire destroyed a JCB digger, which was being used to dismantle the camp, before spreading to other areas.
The Malahide Road is currently closed and diversions are in place.
A Garda spokesperson said this is an ongoing public order incident, and cannot provide further details at this time.
Dublin Fire Brigade said "Three fire engines from Kilbarrack, North Strand and Finglas fire stations along with a turntable ladder are on scene."

The camp was set up several months ago to prevent workers from renovating the site and has people present at the site around-the-clock.
Videos on social media show a stand-off between gardai and protesters, while some demonstrators are also seen shouting abuse at gardaí
