Gardaí broke up a road bowling event attended by at least 50 people in Co Cork on Sunday.
The outdoor gathering reportedly took place along roads in the Bottlehill area of Burnfort, a few kilometres south of Mallow, at around 1.30pm.
Gardaí from Mallow attended at the scene and took the names and addresses of dozens of individuals.
A Garda spokesman told The Irish Examiner that a number of fixed penalty notices were issued for suspected breaches of the 5km travel restrictions.
Gardaí are planning to mount more Covid-19 checkpoints on backroads across west Cork after they found a number of people using regional and minor roads to visit beaches and forests.
Non-essential travel
Elsewhere, hundreds of people were fined by gardaí this weekend after breaking travel restrictions.
Many more were given cautions and sent home after being stopped at Garda checkpoints, as the force ramped up enforcement of the Public Health Act.
Under current Level 5 restrictions to suppress the spread of Covid-19, people are asked to stay home aside from essential reasons and to exercise within five kilometres of their place of residence.
The weekend saw a major increase in the number of fines issued by gardaí, with the total number of people ticketed still being counted at Garda Headquarters.
More than 170 people were fined in Co Wicklow alone, with at least 100 fines issued on Saturday and a further 70 more on Sunday. Some 400 additional drivers were also sent home with a caution.
