Gardaí in Co Donegal have seized a total of 25,000 tablets as part of a crackdown on the illegal sale and supply of prescribed medication.

The prescription medication, with an estimated street value of €50,000, was seized at a private dwelling in Letterkenny.

The raid was carried out on Sunday morning last by gardaí and officers from the Health Product Regulatory Authority

Gardaí say the raid was part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of prescription tablets.

In a further search of the house, a quantity of cannabis was also recovered.

Gardaí have confirmed that one man, in his 20s, was arrested.

He was detained at a Garda Station in the Donegal division under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He was subsequently charged to appear before Letterkenny District Court at a future date.

A Garda spokesperson added that their investigations are ongoing.
