New research has shown Ireland ranks fourth for having the most successful businesses in Europe.
Research carried out by group Plus500 analysed the largest companies in Europe, and compared their total profit in 2022 with their number of employees to discover each business’s profit per employee.
It then calculated which countries had the highest number of companies with the largest profit per employee in the list.
Ireland has eight companies ranked within the top 100, which includes technology and consulting giant Accenture, a Fortune 500 company, and medical technology firm Medtronic.
Top of the list was the UK, which had 22 companies in the top 100. BP, Shell, GlaxoSmithKline, and banks HSBC and Lloyds were all included in the 22 companies.
France and Germany were joint second with 21 companies, with the Netherlands just ahead of Ireland with 10 companies in the top 100.
Italy is fifth on the list with five companies in the top 100, which includes Ferrari.
Denmark is sixth on the list with four companies, with Sweden having three and Belgium represented by one company to round off the top eight.
