Former taoiseach Leo Varadkar is in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention, where he posed for a picture with former US House speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Mr Varadkar was in the United Center to watch speeches from the likes of Ms Pelosi, former US president Bill Clinton, and vice presidential nominee Tim Walz.
Mr Varadkar met Ms Pelosi on a number of occasions during his time as taoiseach.
In 2019, he welcomed her during a visit to Ireland, where she made an address to Dáil Éireann.
While Mr Varadkar is used to playing an official role on big events on the world stage, he appears to be in Chicago as an observer.
He shared the picture on his Instagram story.
Ms Pelosi was reportedly key in the behind the scenes manoeuvres which ultimately led to US president Joe Biden stepping aside to let his vice president go up against Donald Trump in November's election.
While the display at the DNC has been one of unity, Ms Pelosi has admitted she has not spoken to Mr Biden since he dropped out of the running.
Dublin West TD Leo Varadkar has confirmed he will call time on his career in politics at the next general election.
The 45-year-old has not indicated what he will do next. However, he confirmed he has had a number of offers.
Mr Varadkar is believed to be in the process of writing his memoirs.
