A number of major routes in the south of the country remain impassable this morning due to flooding.
A status orange rainfall warning for Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford expired last night, but large areas remain submerged after rivers burst their banks.
Properties escaped significant damage.

Met Éireann has said there will be patchy rain in the south and east of the country again today, which will become heavy at times.
The national forecaster said: “A cloudy start in all areas, mainly dry in the north and west, with patchy rain across the midlands, south and east through the morning and afternoon, heavy at times. A clearance to drier weather with scattered showers will gradually edge from the west later in the day, but remaining damp in the east until after dark. Highs of 8 to 11 degrees in moderate southwesterly winds, fresh to strong on coasts.”
John Kennelly from Kerry County Council says motorists need to take care as water levels will take time to drop.
Mr Kennelly said: “We're very hopeful that over the course of today most roads will remain open but there's a possibility that depending on how slowly the river levels recede some roads could remain closed for longer periods.”
