A man in his 60s has died after his jeep collided with an electricity pole.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal road traffic collision on the East Wall Road in Dublin 1 shortly before midnight on Thursday.

The single-vehicle collision occurred when a jeep collided with an electricity pole at approximately 11:55pm.

The driver and sole occupant of the jeep, the man in his 60s, was transferred to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

No other injuries were reported.

The East Wall road is currently closed between the North Strand Road and Alfie Byrne Road to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators this morning. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to make this footage available to gardaí.
