A Dublin man accused of holding up a taxi driver at knifepoint has been refused bail.

Jason Wosser Bonney, 24, of Cromleth Court, Ballymun, appeared before Judge Treasa Kelly at Dublin District Court over the incident in the early hours of Sunday.

He was charged with robbery of the taxi driver who allegedly captured on CCTV collecting him from the Beaumont hospital A&E department.

He was also accused of unlawfully possessing €283 worth of cannabis and sedative tablets following his arrest.

Garda Clodagh McDonnell objected to bail, telling the judge that the taxi driver was “threatened by the suspect with a knife”. The court heard that he allegedly stole two phones and a Revolut card from the taxi man, but his home was searched and the items recovered.

He was also charged with robbing another taxi driver of €320 on April 3rd in Balcurris Gardens Ballymun after being collected from outside a hotel on Parnell Street in the city centre. Garda McDonnell claimed that this driver was punched in the face.

He was also charged with stealing a charity box from a McDonald’s restaurant at Dublin Airport on March 31st and an iPad from a Circle K shop on June 21st in Dublin.

The garda told defence solicitor Tracy Horan that a file would be sent to the DPP to determine if his case would stay in the District Court or go to the Circuit Court, with broader sentencing powers.

The court heard that his reply to one of the charges was "stitch up".

Mr Wosser Bonney, who has yet to indicate a plea, did not give evidence at the hearing and became upset and called the allegations “lies”.

Judge Kelly said he faced “serious charges”, refused bail and remanded him in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday.

Legal aid was granted after the court heard he was unemployed, getting social welfare and had no assets.
