A man has been arrested after a managed containment operation was carried out following the theft of a lorry in Co Cork.
On Tuesday evening, Gardaí received a report of the theft of a lorry in Bandon, and the vehicle was later observed in the Togher area of Cork on Wednesday morning.
The vehicle failed to stop when directed to do so by gardaí, and a managed containment operation was launched, stopping the lorry in the Forge Hill area of Togher.
A man aged in his 30s was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently detained at a Garda station in the southern region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
A statement from Gardaí confirmed two Garda vehicles were damaged during the course of the operation, but no injuries were reported.
A shot was also discharged from a Garda firmarm during the incident, so the matter has been reported to the Garda Síochána Ombusdman Commission (Gsoc), as is protocol.
Gardaí said investigations into the matter are continuing.
