A boy has been arrested after a woman was found dead in Co Offaly.
As The Irish Times reports, the 16-year-old allegedly killed the woman at a property in Tullamore on Friday afternoon.
It is understood footage of the incident was shared online shortly afterwards.
Gardaí confirmed they responded to reports of the incident at around 1pm on Friday.
When emergency services arrived at the scene, the body of a woman aged in her 40s was discovered.
The boy was arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the Midlands.
Gardaí confirmed the woman was known to the boy.
The scene has been preserved and an examination by the Garda Technical Bureau is to be carried out. The coroner and Office of the State Pathologist have also been notified.
Earlier, Gardaí said the force is aware that images from the incident are circulating on social media and messaging apps and urged the public not to share the content.
