A man has been charged in relation to an alleged assault at a house in Kilkenny city which has resulted in another man to have suffered a serious head injury.
The alleged assault occurred at 9pm at the Weir View, at residential property on the Castlecomer Road area of the city.
A 36-year-old local man who suffered a head injury following the alleged assault is now in a stable condition in Beaumont Hospital.
A man, aged in his 40s, was subsequently arrested at the property and is currently detained at a Garda station in the county where he has now been charged.
In a statement gardai said: “Gardaí responded to a call in relation to an alleged assault and attended a residential property in the Castlecomer Road area of Kilkenny city at approximately 9pm last Sunday.
“After speaking to a male at the address, gardaí requested the assistance of emergency services as the male appeared to have suffered a head injury and required medical treatment.”
The injured man was brought to St Luke’s General Hospital, in Kilkenny, and was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is described as “stable".
“Following enquiries, gardaí arrested a man on Monday, September 25th under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, and he was later charged to appear before Kilkenny District Court.”
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Weir View on Sunday between 8pm and 9pm and who may have camera footage to come forward. They can be contacted on 056-7775000.
