A Dublin man has been accused of attacking a woman at an emergency department, a delivery man at his home, and a knife raid at a supermarket in an alleged four-week "crime spree".

Ronnie Wilde, 23, of Clanbrassil Terrace, Dublin 8, was charged with assault causing harm to a patient at the A&E in St James's Hospital on September 26 last, and to the deliveryman a day later, and robbery at Tesco, Leonard's Corner, Dublin 8 on September 1st.

He was arrested on Monday and charged ahead of his appearance and bail hearing before Judge Michele Finan at Dublin District Court on Tuesday.

Defence solicitor Brian Tunney said his client denies the charges.

Garda Emer Redmond objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offences, which she maintained were part of a crime spree in September.

During the incident at the hospital, he allegedly punched the woman three times in the face and acted aggressively toward anyone who tried to intervene. The garda said, "After it, he sat back down and resumed his conversation with his girlfriend as if nothing happened".

During his Garda interview, he told officers it happened after a verbal altercation between the woman and his girlfriend.

The woman, who had gone to the hospital seeking help for suffering mental health issues, was left with a laceration to her lip. The defence submitted that there had been aggression from the alleged injured party and Mr Wilde was "reactive and reflexive".

The court heard that a delivery man arrived at the accused's home with food on the following date and called through his letter box. It was alleged he received seven or eight blows to the face.

The defence said the accused explained to gardaí that he was "spooked" at someone at his door, having previously been the subject of a fire-bomb attack.

She told the court it was alleged that the accused threatened the Tesco security guard and a staff member with a knife while taking €140 worth of products. It was claimed he told one of the staff he had a knife: "Do you want me to cut your throat?" and "Do you want me to come there and stab you?".

Mr Tunney, pleading for bail, said his client, who was on disability allowance, would abide by conditions.

The solicitor, addressing concerns over possible interference with witnesses, said they were not known to his client, who has not been in the shop since the incident, which the garda accepted.

Refusal of bail could see Mr Wilde in custody for two years pending his trial, the solicitor argued.

However, Judge Finan refused the application and remanded Mr Wilde in custody pending directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

He will appear at Cloverhill District Court next week. Legal aid was granted.
