A man has been found dead following a fire at a flat in Togher Road on the southside of Cork city.
Three units of Cork City Fire Brigade attended at the property at about 7pm on Friday. A man was found deceased in the property.
The fire was contained within one room at the flat. The body of the man, who is understood to be in his 60s, remains at the scene.
A second person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
The flat has been preserved for a technical examination. This will establish the cause of the fire.
The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post mortem examination will be carried out at Cork University Hospital. This will determine the course of the garda investigation.
The Coroner has been informed and an inquest will be held in due course.
