A man is in a critical condition following a serious assault in Westmeath in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Gardaí were called to a disturbance involving two men on Patrick Street in Mullingar just after 1:30am.

A man in his mid 50s was taken to Regional Hospital Mullingar, before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is understood to be critical.
Gardaí are asking anyone who was in the area between one and two o'clock to come forward.
