Visitors to Ireland fell by 5.1 per cent in October compared to the same time in 2023, according to statistics from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

However, tourists are spending more money in the State during their visits, with €534.3 million spent during October this year, an increase of 3.6 per cent compared with the same period last year.

The largest contingent of visitors came from Great Britain, at 32.6 per cent, with 21.7 per cent coming from the United States and 8.1 per cent coming from Germany.

The most frequent reason for travelling to Ireland was for holiday or leisure, with 44.2 per cent of visitors coming for that reason.

Visitors stayed a total of 3.9 million nights in the country, down 2.1 per cent when compared with October 2023.

The average length of stay for foreign resident overnight visitors was 7.1 nights, up from an average of 6.9 nights in October 2023.
