A status orange rain warning for Cork comes into effect on Thursday, along with a separate status yellow rain warning for 12 other counties.
The warning for Cork will come into place at 6pm this evening and will remain in place for 24 hours.
Met Éireann said that persistent and heavy rain will lead to localised flooding, poor visibility and very difficult travelling conditions.
The alert for all counties in Munster, as well as Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly and Wicklow, also comes into effect at 6pm today and will end at 6pm on Friday.

Thursday morning will be mainly dry with bright or sunny spells.
Cloudier further south with rain or drizzle near the south coast. In the afternoon, persistent rain will develop in the south and spread northwards through the evening, heavy at times, especially in Munster and Leinster with spot flooding likely.
Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees with light variable breezes.
Friday will see very heavy rain be slow to clear eastwards, and linger for much of the day, before eventually easing through the night. Cool with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees, in light to moderate northeast winds.
The overall outlook is unsettled with outbreaks of rain or showers on most days, with the exception of a mostly dry day Saturday.
Saturday will be mostly dry, with a possibility of light rain lingering in eastern and southeastern parts.
Sunny spells elsewhere, with the best of the sunshine in the northwest. Highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees, with light to moderate northeasterly breezes.
Sunday will likely be a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain, heaviest and most persistent over the eastern half of the country. Highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees in light to moderate easterly breezes.
