A pedestrian died after a collision with a car in Co Mayo on Tuesday night.

The incident happened on the N60 at Carrowntober Oughter, Manulla, near Balla shortly before 11.00pm.

The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The road was closed and local diversions were put in place. The scene was examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are also seeking any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time of the incident to provide it to investigating gardaí.

The death brings the number of road fatalities in the Republic to 137 so far this year.
