A yellow rain warning will come into place for 18 counties from early on Tuesday morning.
The affected counties includes all of Leinster along with Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Tipperary and Waterford.
Met Éireann said rain will become persistent and heavy at times. Potential impacts include localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility.
The warning is valid from 4am on Tuesday to 4am on Wednesday morning.

There will be cloudy periods and sunny spells on Monday. A few isolated showers in the north and west this afternoon but most areas will stay dry.
Later this afternoon and evening, cloud will build in Munster and south Leinster with outbreaks of rain and drizzle following. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in light winds.
Mostly cloudy on Tuesday morning with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, most persistent in the southeast, east and northeast through the day with the possibility of spot flooding.
Driest in the southwest and west, especially later in the day with sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees, warmest in the west, in mostly moderate, occasionally fresh, northeasterly winds.
Met Éireann said overall this week low pressure will dominate at first bringing further rain and showers. Becoming drier and more settled later in the week.
On Wednesday. outbreaks of rain and drizzle will likely persist over Ulster through much of the day.
A mix of cloud, sunny spells and well scattered showers elsewhere, with the best of the sunshine in the Munster and Connacht.
Highest temperatures ranging from 14 degrees in the north to 20 degrees in the south with moderate, occasionally fresh, northwesterly winds, strong at times near northwest coasts.
Current indications suggest that high pressure will continue to dominate next weekend bringing a mix of cloud and sunny spells with light winds and just a few showers.
