South East Technological University’s campus in Waterford has been hit by a significant cyberattack.
Monday's classes have been cancelled as a result, except laboratory classes, with the campus being left with no internet or access to other online facilities.
It is understood staff were made aware of the incident earlier on Friday, and that no data or information has been compromised.
SETU said the attack was identified early and that their IT team had "moved swiftly to safeguard systems".
The university pointed out that there was no evidence indicating that data or information had been compromised.
SETU said it was continuing to monitor the situation closely, is liaising with specialist cybersecurity advisers and their investigations are ongoing.
Classes elsewhere on the university’s south-east campuses will continue as normal on Monday, along with apprenticeship classes at Waterford.
The postponement of classes in Waterford is to enable staff to organise lectures without campus internet.
SETU were contacted for further comment.
