A status yellow snow and ice warning has been issued for the counties of Cavan, Donegal and Leitrim.
Snowfall is possible this evening and overnight, alongside poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.
The warning is in place from 7pm on Monday evening until 8am on Tuesday morning.
Rain will spread across Munster, Connacht and Leinster this morning, extending into Ulster this afternoon and evening, according to the forecast.
It will be heavy at times, turning to sleet or snow in parts of Ulster and north Connacht later this evening. Afternoon highs of 3 to 6 degrees over the northern half of the country and 7 to 12 degrees elsewhere in light to moderate easterly or variable winds.
Tonight is expected to be cloudy with rain continuing, turning to sleet and snow in parts of Ulster and north Connacht, but the rain will ease off by dawn in north Ulster, with frost and ice developing.
Lowest temperatures are expected to be around 0 to 4 degrees, but a bit milder in Munster and south Leinster.
Highest temperatures on Tuesday will move between around 3 and 6 degrees, with slightly warmer temperatures expected in Munster.
This comes as Met Éireann issued a weather advisory for the entire country on Friday, November 15th, saying that from today and into most of the week, the country will transition to significantly colder conditions.
The outlook for the rest of the week is cold – frosty and icy conditions are expected, with further “wintry showers”.
Tuesday and Wednesday night will see more sub-zero temperatures, with lowest temperatures ranging from -3 to 1 degrees. Parts of Ulster and Connacht will be the coldest, with wintry showers expected to continue.
