A 16-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with the death of a homeless man in Kilmainham in Dublin.
The body of the man in his 40s was found on a laneway off Madison Road in the early hours of Monday morning.
The identity of the victim is as yet unknown. It is understood his phone was missing when he was found.
Gardaí were alerted to the incident at about 1.30am.
A male teenager is being held at Kevin Street Garda station.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the State Pathologist has been notified.
Resident David Carr told The Irish Times that the area had been “plagued by teenage gangs” recently.
“We didn’t feel like we got any police action,” he said.
“They became increasingly violent. They attacked anyone who looked different. For a while it quietened down, but lately there has been a bit more action.
“There was some teenagers kicking at my door recently and they were putting it up to me. There is a lot of intimidation.
“I can see them in the neighbourhood. They are very confident and very arrogant. I don’t know if it is the same group, I can’t be sure, but they act like a magnet. We don’t feel like we are being protected here.”
Gardaí in Kevin Street are appealing to anyone who may have any information to come forward.
Investigations are ongoing.
