Richard Satchwell has been further remanded in custody charged with the murder of his wife, Tina, after appearing at Clonmel District Court in Co Tipperary on Tuesday morning.
Mr Satchwell, who is originally from Leicester, England, but was living in Grattan Street in Youghal, Co Cork, was charged with the murder of Tina Satchwell at a special sitting of Cashel District Court last Saturday. The alleged offence occurred on March 20th, 2017.
Ms Satchwell, née Dingivan, was reported missing six years ago. The missing person case was upgraded to a murder investigation last week. The remains of the 45-year-old were found buried in her home by gardaí searching the property last Wednesday.
Mr Satchwell (57) did not speak during the short hearing by video link from prison at Clonmel Court on Tuesday. He was wearing a grey tracksuit.
Sgt Tom O’Brien made an application to have Mr Satchwell remanded in custody to appear before the court again on November 7th.
Sgt O’Brien told Judge Cephas Power that the remand was consented to by the defendant and his solicitor Eddie Burke who was represented by local solicitor Aidan Leahy.
Judge Power remanded Mr Satchwell in custody to appear before the court again on November 7th next. Gardaí are awaiting DPP instructions in the case.
Ms Satchwell was originally from St Bernard’s Place in Fermoy, Co Cork. She was living in Youghal at the time of her death. She was reported missing on March 24th, 2017, by her husband.
After she was reported missing, gardaí followed 400 lines of inquiry, watched hundreds of hours of CCTV and took witness statements from 170 people. A major sea and land search was carried out by gardaí following her disappearance. In March 2018 gardaí led a major search for Ms Satchwell in Mitchel’s Wood in Castlemartyr, Co Cork.
On the sixth anniversary of Tina’s disappearance in March this year, gardaí issued a renewed appeal for information in a bid to locate her.
Tina Satchwell would have turned 50 last year. She hailed from a family of eight and is survived by her siblings. Vigils in her memory have been held in Youghal and Fermoy.
