Two men accused of murdering a homeless man in Cork will go on trial at the Central Criminal Court in early 2022.
Christopher O'Sullivan (37), originally from Ballyspillane, Killarney, Co Kerry and more recently of no fixed abode, and James Brady (26), of Shannon Lawn, Mayfield, Cork, are both accused of the murder of Timmy Hourihane, a 53-year-old homeless man from West Cork, at Mardyke Walk in Cork City on October 13th, 2019.
Mr Justice Michael White adjourned the matter to January 31st, 2022, for a trial expected to last up to three weeks at the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin.
Mr Justice White said that he would try to accommodate any application to have the case heard in Cork and allowed liberty for lawyers for both men to apply to for a Cork venue.
Both men appeared by video-link and were remanded in custody to January 31st, 2022.
A previous hearing of the case was told that, a native of Sheep's Head peninsula in south west Cork, Mr Hourihane died from his injuries in Cork University Hospital in the early hours of October 13th.
He had been camping at the green area near Mardyke Walk on the night when the alarm was raised that a tent had been observed on fire opposite the gates to University College Cork.
Fire and emergency services attended the scene and rushed Mr Hourihane to the hospital but he was later pronounced dead.
