GardaĆ­ in Dundalk are appealing for witnesses following a hit-and-run road traffic collision which occurred in Dundalk, Co Louth, on Sunday.

Shortly after 1pm, gardaĆ­ and emergency services were alerted to a serious road traffic collision on the Armagh Road (R177) at the junction with the Toberona Road.

A car was struck by an SUV resulting in injuries to the sole occupant, a woman (70s). She was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to be treated for what are believed to be serious injuries.

The two occupants of the SUV, which was earlier the subject of an unauthorised taking, fled the scene on foot and have yet to come forward.

Investigating gardaĆ­ have conducted a technical examination of the scene and both vehicles involved, and the road has since been fully reopened to traffic.

GardaĆ­ are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. In addition, road users who may have dash-cam footage from the area at the time of the incident are also urged to contact GardaĆ­.
