A woman in her 80s has died following a two-vehicle collision in Co Meath.

The incident occurred shortly after 2pm on Wednesday near Enfield.

The driver from one of the cars, a woman in her 80s, was fatally injured.

The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

An examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators has since concluded. The road has re-opened.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

This is the fourth person to be killed on Irish roads in the last 24 hours.

A man and a woman died in a collision in Donegal, while a motorcyclist was killed in Finglas, Co Dublin.
